Kings Point Class of '98

This past weekend we were up at Kings Point, NY celebrating Brad's 10 year college reuinion from the USMMA. The weather wasn't that great, but we managed to have a great time catching up with his old friends and we even got a sail in. The academy lies on the grounds of the old Chrysler estate and has beautiful water views all the way across to NYC.

The 97 foot, 11 million dollar sailboat below was recently donated to the academy. The director of the sailing program took about 35 of us out for a sail on Saturday. Despite the mist, I enjoyed being out on the water on such an amazing boat. Luckily the drizzle stopped by 2 and we spent the rest of the evening eating, drinking and catching up with everyone. It was a great weekend, but after a night out in NYC on Friday night (getting in at 3am) and drinking again at 12noon on Sat., I am only reminded of how I'm not so young anymore. Hope I'll be able to hang for the 15 year.

Beagles, beagles and more beagles

Despite the steamy 94 degree temperature, we (me, Winston, our friend Amy and her son, T who is the president of the Winston fan club) headed down to the annual beagle bash to help support the beagle rescue organization of southern MD.
I would guess there were about 40 beagles in attendance. It was fun to get out there and see some of our beagle friends and enjoy the bone shaped swimming pool. T loved it but couldn't convince Winston to come in.

I did proudly wear my "beagle" tshirt today (purchased randomly from a J Crew outlet) but I pray I never wear beagle ankle socks.
We all lasted about an hour and then the heat really got to us, especially T who wore his birthday suit on the ride home.

Hanna was no show stopper for us!

In spite of all the hype about "the big" tropical storm Hanna, we didn't really give it a second thought and were on our way out of town on Friday early afternoon. We had all been looking forward to this weekend so much that no tropical storm or hurricane would have stopped us.

The rain even held off until about 11am on Saturday, so we got the 5K in too with a good time none the less. I guess having a few drinks the night before didn't slow me down at all. I finished with an 11min and 35 sec. mile which I was thrilled about. This made me feel a lot less guilty when the jello shots and mixed drinks surfaced at 4:30 on Saturday :-)

I feel very confident in saying that all 16 of us had an awesome time and that most of us will be back next year (me for sure!) I enjoyed most spending time with my girls below. With everyone's busy lives, kids, jobs, etc. it seems like hanging out together is a rareity these days. We definitely made the most of it and had a blast together.

Run Christy Run!

I leave on Friday for my annual girls weekend in Dewey Beach and could not be more ready (hence updating my blog in the middle of a work day!) I can't seem to stop thinking about what flavor jello I'm going to buy for the jello shots and if vodka would be better or perhaps tequila would work for the lime jello... hmmm...

Every year, the weekend after Labor Day, The Bottle and Cork (a bar in Dewey Beach, DE) puts on a 5K and a 10 miler. This will be my 3rd year attending, but my friends have been going now for about 10 years. This weekend attracts a ton of people to the beach and it is the last big party/bar weekend for Dewey. I didn't run last year, but I did in '06 and thanks to the internet, was just able to find my time. I was actually shocked when I saw how fast (for me, I'm a slow runner) I actually ran the 5K in. I averaged an 11min 19sec mile and completed the race in 35min 5sec. I thought I did much worse than this, but then again I was a very young 28 back then. I was hoping for an 11m 30s mile this year in hopes I'd beat my time from 2 years ago, but I think I'll just aim to finish the race.

We've got about 16 women (most of us married, many with kids) who are all more than ready to have an awesome time. Keep your fingers crossed the weather is nice for us!
